The Cliff & Joanne Student Scholarship Is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating primary school students each year. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, and their commitment to educating themselves and making a significant impact on their schools and communities. The Scholars Program provides on an annual basis, four-year scholarships to deserving primary school students entering secondary school for the first time, and two-year scholarships for students entertain 6th Form.



Applicants must:

  • Be a permanent legal resident of San Pedro, Belize

  • Be a current primary school student attending school in San Pedro, Belize

  • Anticipate completion of primary school at the time of application

  • Plan to pursue an education and future degree at an accredited Belize secondary institution

  • Carry a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of their second and last year of primary school education

  • Exhibit difficult personal circumstances, high financial need, and strong academic promise to continue education beyond the secondary level


Applicants may not:

  • Be international students

  • Be primary school graduates

  • Be temporary residents

  • Be in default of any student loan for attendance at any institution or owe a refund for any pervious financial aid received




Scholarship awards vary and are based on education cost, including tuition, room, board, required fees, books, uniforms and transportation.



Eligible students who are in the 6th or 7th grades of school can begin to apply in February or March of the present academic year, with a submission deadline of mid-June. A school or qualified community agency or organization must nominate them. Nominated students must also complete and submit the current year application form.


Application Instructions:

  • An essay explaining why he/she is in need of the scholarship (not to exceed 1000 words)

  • A copy of his/her Birth Certificate and Social Security Card

  • Parents’ recent TD4 or letter from employer stating their yearly income and employment history

  • A copy of yearly report cards

  • Letter of acceptance from their high school or sixth form of choice, and

  • A letter of recommendation from a teacher

  • Short listed applicants are interviewed by the selection committee
